This is my second time coming to this amazing restaurant in the East Village for some warm Mediterranean food. The first I went was two years ago on a nice summer day outside of the restaurant. It was very packed that night and my partner and I opted to eat outside to enjoy the nice summer night breeze. I had a wonderful experience there and had looked forward to come back. I came back to Pylos for lunch to see if the same expectations would be met.
When first entering Pylos, you’ll get this sense of feeling of home. The big wooden door in the front, which is extremely warm from all the heat it absorbed, made me feel like I was walking into a fancy cabin. Once inside I was immediately greeted by one of the waiters who was super super nice, extra points-haha, and told us to feel free to sit anywhere. I was immediately drawn to all the claypots that are hanging on the ceiling as you can see:

(This is the front of the restaurant)
…and opted to sit in the back because I’ve never been back there. The decor looks beautiful. There are comfortable pillows for you to support your back and there was so much wine to choose from. That day I wasn’t in a “winey” mood so I just had water. But yeah, it was a nice relaxing moment especially from a day of walking in the cold.
Alright, time to sit down and order something. From a bout 11 – 4pm, it’s also considered as Brunch, and there’s a prix-fixe menu fyi.

Free Pita Bread

This warm bread really helps after coming out from the cold. I believe the waiter forgot the hummus dip, but it didn’t matter to us. But we later on find a use for this bread for something else that Dawen ordered.
Appetizers
Saganaki tou merakli three greek cheeses melted in a clay pot
Price: $9.00

Don’t worry about the pronounciation. The waiter was really understanding about it and even told us that he wasn’t greek. But he did know how to pronounce it when we asked him too, so it was very nice.
Verdict: This is very good, and you’ll love this especially more if you’re a cheese fan. Now I’m not no cheese fan, but Dawen does and it goes great with the pita bread.
Recommended: Yes. Have you see 3 cheeses melted and just served to you like this?
And wow, you can’t believe how fast their service is. It’s just one dish after the other. Maybe it helps to kind of sit near the kitchen.
Greek Yiayia’s Fried Potatoes Wedges of hand-cut fried potatoes served with grated Greek sheep’s milk cheese and oregano
Price: $5.00

Verdict: These potato wedges are very crispy and salted to perfection. The thing is that it seems a little dried, but otherwise it’s a great comfort food.
Recommended: Yes
Greek Comfort Food
Pastitsio PYLOS’ terrine of baked pasta layered with aromatic meat sauce and bechamel
Price: $15.00

Verdict: Don’t think this looks small because it isn’t and it packs a powerful punch. The top layer is very soft and cheesy, which compliments well with the pasta and the meat. This is a very filling dish and among one of the most popular because I saw many people eating it. After all, it is a comfort food!
Recommended: Yes
Ta Afrata Keftedakia tis Dianas Diane’s light-as-air meatballs, pan-fried in olive oil
Price: $9.00

Verdict: This is no ordinary meatball because it has a strong minty flavor, sort of like grape leaves. I thought this minty/herby flavor really overwhelmed the natural flavors of the meatball. After when the meatball cooled down, it was very sour to me which I didn’t like. Dawen seems to love it a lot so it’s just a matter of opinion.
Recommended: No, but it tastes better than most meatballs!
That was it for lunch. I did not finish any of my food and decided that it wasn’t wise to get dessert yet. That and I banked on going to Australian Homemade for dessert after when softrice showed me the website. Check out the website or wait for my review in a few days.
Overall it was a great lunch. It was under $40 for the both of us and we had one of the best service ever.

i’m feeling sick today. i dont kow if it’s because i ate so much yesterday. yesterday i ate a lot of bacon. then my mom gave me a lot of lasgna for lunch (which wasn’t that great b/c she prepared it the night before so the noodles got WAY too soft/soggy/pastey), then for snack, i had a big piece of cheesecake. then for dinner i had my usual big meal. i was so full after lunch, but i chose to eat anyways… see, when i stress over studying, i eat. good thing i dont study too often otherwise i’d be obese from all the comfort foods…
on the train i felt so naucious (can’t spell today, pronounced gnaw-sh-cious)…
and yes i like my rice and noodles soggy, but not dry/pastey. it’s got to be fresh and not made the night before…

and time flew by so fast. i had no idea today was the 29th! i need to buy a new train ticket for feb and i got to study for gmats!

my goodness, $40 for lunch?! you’d never get me to spend that much just for lunch, you know unless I was with you know who….but then again when would that happen right? sigh….
Anyways though I’ve seen 3 cheeses melted before and served to me, TACO BELL! lol duh! The pasta thing you ordered seems good Anyways take care….
o and huh? what domain and such? And I don’t know the exact name of the mochi since it IS in japanese lol.

my puma bag is sooooo huge! i didn’t realize how huge it was until i took it with me on the train. it’s long vertically instead of horizontally like kate.
but im keeping the puma…
i’m thinking of picking up my stuff maybe on monday before gmats… i’ll be in the city, trying to find kate by myself, in the morning before my doc’s appointment. so if you’re up, i’ll pick it up. othewise, i’ll pick it up on feb 9th if the weather isn’t bad.

i know you like money because you’re an ambitious asian, but if your domain has a million annoying ads, i wouldn’t visit your page. i hate them because they pop up all over the place and some are jsut too flashy and they annoy me.
anyways, it’s the complete opposite for most people. people who work from 8-5 dont really stay skinny, they actually gain weight. believe it or not, but i’ve gained so much weight since i graduated because i have no time for exercise. amir gained a lot of weight too. my older brother, same thing, he’s got a pot belly. and it’s even worse for married people. they just pack on the pounds like there’s no tomorrow, like my dad.
i’m so dazed and i didn’t even hear my phone ring becaue i’m so busy writing to you

geez luise, you’re not good with details when you at home huh?
gmats are on feb 5th, i was planning to pick up my blazer and stuff on the day if i have time…
and it’s not my time of the month yet, so there’s no breakouts. either that or it’s because of the new clearcil cleaner my mom got that “guarantees clear skin in 3 days.”
anyway, sharon gave me work to do… but i’ll probably be done within the hour or 2

mmmm $20 for one person for lunch is quite a lot…..see for lunch I’m used to seeing only $40 for 4 people. That’s yum cha with dim sum and I get massively full.
Next….how are you going to make money? Quite interesting….
Take Vick to try bb tea, and some Mochi, she probbly too much of a twinkie to try either.
lol personally I expect a more elaborate comment from you about what I wrote, but eh whatever, that’s just my own expectations….
Take care!~

i dont like this layout. since i can’t see pictures, i dont know when your comment ends. plus these LA EIZO monitors suck. they’re so cheap. i can barely see where the comment link is since it’s all the way at the end

i think kodak makes me register in order to see the pics. i had to register to see my friend’s wedding pics. and after i registered i kept getting spam ads from them, like ordering prints costs this much dollars, etc. and it was annoying. i like flickr though

can you see my lastest blog? (not this one). i dont know if my latest one is working…

speaking of of th dragon fighters. when i was looking for the ML building, there were white cops near building 4 and near building 2 were asian cops. the asian cop’s walkie-talkie was in chinese. did you know… is that strange? that we have 2 different police’s, one asian and one non-asian… yet they’re wearing the same uniform…

eh still I like an elaborate comment, you know that…. -.-
If Vicky is going to reject everything then how is she going to find something new to like ever? Eating the same ol thing again and gain gets dull, just like you girls dating the same guy for many years, once you know him and he has no more enigma to him, you ditch him.
A nice restaurant is my style DEPENDING on who I’m going with. Last time I went to a fancy restaurant I don’t remember when….but if I do go, it has to be with someone worth the money for me to go. And you know who that is….
Well when I go on a date, I don’t let money get in the way, but of course I don’t want my date to think o I’m going to get this all the time and etc etc, then screw her!
Anyways take care!~
